... and just like that, my little baby is 6 months old today.

Project Life 2013 | Weeks 35-36
Welcome to project life 2013 | weeks 35-36 (Aug 19 - Aug 25 & Aug 26 - Sept 1)
DJ and I flew back home to Vegas from Buffalo on the 27th, so I included some more memories from that trip. DJ and his grandpa standing in front of Dom's house he grew up in, and DJ standing in Dom's baby footprints.
It felt so good to be back home.
This week I included my usual monthly insert celebrating each time DJ becomes a month older.

I didn't have many photos for the week, so I decided to take some of my favorites and print them extra large. The whole black and white theme was a total (read: happy) coincidence.

This week was pretty simple. I used a couple pieces from the seafoam and midnight editions and the rest were photos.
Here is the spread without the insert:

"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2013"
Somehow, with no idea where the time went, we are nearing six months.

Project Life 2013 | Week 34
Welcome to project life 2013 | week 34 (Aug 19 - Aug 25)
This week I was still in Ontario visiting with friends and family. I found it SO difficult to choose which photos to post, and I absolutely adore the one of me and my two cousins (and her daughter) that I just had to include a large insert.
Here's what the spread looks like without the insert:
Week 34 was full of memories. DJ spending as much time with his grand parents as possible, visits with friends, DJ's first trip to the water, his first dip in the sand, visiting my brother, sister in law and niece. I was even able to meet up with my old boss (who is 50% of the reason Dom and I are together) for coffee at Balzac's, and DJ having baths in the bathroom sink. What an amazing week.
left side:
I mostly let the photos do the talking, and made sure to include pieces from my outings; such as the coffee cup from Balzac's and the insert from Hana, where my best friend and I had all you can eat sushi.
The date overlays are from Paislee Press.
right side:
Mostly photos again, but I included a little journalling summarizing how it felt to be back in my hometown.
Insert:
I grew up really close with my cousins Danielle (left) and Deana (right) and so I just had to get a photograph of us together. Even Deana's little girl, Mariah wanted in on the action. I just adore this photo, which is why I included it as an insert, using a 8.5x11 page protector.
& don't forget to check out how I'm going back and documenting previous years!

18 september
I've been feeling all sorts of everything lately: blissful, sad, envious and nostalgic. In my heart it feels as though it should be autumn, having grown up on the east coast of Canada, but Las Vegas remains steadfast in its determination to keep summer around. This morning we actually had the front and back doors open for a good hour, so for now I will cling to this and take small victories wherever and whenever I can find them.
The problem is that I can't seem to get my mind off of autumn. My house smells of pumpkin spice, my tea collection has grown exponentially, blankets now litter the house ready to be cuddled under, and I'm sniffing around for a change in the air.
Fall has always been my favorite. I'm anxious to get outside with DJ and introduce him to everything that he has - for the most part - been sheltered from because of the sun and heat. I want him to love fall the way that I do; I want the three of us to love it as a family, the way that I did growing up.
The other concern that I have been unable to shake these days is my failure to document life in words the way that I used to. My thoughts have always been slippery and they disappear quickly, easily crushed my distraction, and so: days go by without me writing a single word. Twenty-nine year old me is screaming for inspiration to hit me the way they did twenty-year old me. I was a powerhouse back then, I couldn't put the damn pen down. I can't help but wonder why at the point in my life where the most is happening, where the most has changed, have I seemingly gone silent? And as a writer who has always needed to record my thoughts the moment they enter my mind, how do I balance this with motherhood?
All of these thoughts and concerns culminate in my day to day life, and I just can't shake the feeling that it's tied to the seasons, and that somehow, in some magical force beyond me, autumn will bring with it a sense of peace and contentment, and maybe, just maybe, some balance.

Project Life Giveaway
Taking part in project life has been such a freeing, satisfying adventure. It has allowed me to be creative in ways I hadn't really experience since my days of painting and sketching. I've tried new things left, right and center: new designs, new colors, more embellishments, no embellishments, lots of journaling, no journaling, big photos. What I've discovered is that I like to keep things really simple.
And so, I'm hosting a giveaway so that one lucky person can get some use out of my cards! I'm giving away a mix of Seafoam and Midnight Edition cards:
How to win

"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2013"
Adventures in sippy cup land. I read somewhere that kids have been known to drink from a sippy cup as early as 5 months, so naturally, I wanted to give it a shot. He immediately got the hang of holding it and bringing it right to his lips. He will even suck on the lip. What we have to work on is the tilt in order for him to get any of the water out. But by golly, he's learning so quickly already.

Project Life 2013 | Week 33
Welcome to project life 2013 | week 33 (Aug 12 - Aug 18)
It was the Friday of this week that DJ and I packed up and flew into Buffalo, NY for a visit home. My parents met us at the airport and drove us across the border into Ontario and back to my hometown of Kitchener.
Words can't describe how amazing it was to be back again, surrounded by all of those memories and drowning in the familiarity.
One of my favorite aspects of this week is the insert that I did to show off my "from where I stand" and "from where I drink coffee" iphone photos (close up further down).
left side:
I loved the iphone photo of DJ sleeping - hello eyelashes! - so much that I just had to make it really pop from the page. I just love how it turned out.
I printed photos and wrote directly on them, and also included some journalling cards, which I realize I haven't been doing much of lately. I really should try to include more journalling in my spreads from here on out.
right side:
I tried to highlight little pieces of my trip - my first coffee the morning after I landed, the tea that I bought from my favorite little tea shop, my parents cat... and the rest, I wrote on a journal card.
Insert:
I don't do many inserts, only a monthly one showing off a photoshoot I do for DJ each time he becomes a month older. But this insert is one of my absolute favorites because if you know me, you know I love "from where i stand" photos! The template is paiselee press and I just can't get enough of it!
